Adnan Çoker

1927–2022 · Turkish

Other spellings: Adnan Coker

One of the most consistent figures in Turkish abstraction. The arch and dome forms he set against black grounds turn the geometry of Ottoman and Seljuk architecture into an abstract order. After encountering informel painting in Paris he returned to a language of his own, and taught at the Academy for many years.
